Preface
Preface
Section titled “Preface”Every first Sunday of the month for the past seven years, I sat in front of my computer trying to hammer out a 900-word editorial that would be published in Mt Carmel Bible-Presbyterian’s Sunday bulletin. For each editorial, I asked myself: What is the main issue that is occupying the hearts and minds of our congregation this week? Is it an annual celebration like Christmas, Easter, our church anniversary, Reformation Sunday or National Day? Or is it national or world events in the news that are the chief concerns? How can the Word of God speak to His people about issues that confront them day in and day out?
This practice of hearing God’s voice regarding the events of the day started when I was studying in the Bible College of New Zealand. Chee Khiang, a dear brother from our church, suggested that I write once a month for our Saturday Evening Service bulletin. I wrote these articles for three years, which is the duration of my time at the Bible College. When I completed my studies and returned to serve as an associate pastor at Mt Carmel, I continued to contribute once a month to the Carmel Weekly, our Sunday bulletin.
In Living Well, I have selected 52 meditations from the pool of articles that I have written in the past seven years. Each editorial is anchored on a Bible passage and seek to address an issue or situation that we face in life. I believe that to live well as a Christian we need to see things from God’s perspective. In addition, we need to align our lives with God’s instructions found in His Word, the Bible.
I pray that this book will help you to truly live well so as to live out God’s purpose for you.
